Every service moves a different number. Before picking one, decide which number you care about:

• Streams on a specific track → plays or source plays.
• Artist reach → monthly listeners.
• A lasting audience → followers.

Plays: mixed vs 100% Premium

Spotify mobile plays (mixed)

Plays from mobile devices (iOS, Android and tablets) with a mix of Premium and Free listeners. Available for every country plus GLOBAL and EU options. From $0.09 per 1,000, minimum 500.

Good for: steady stream growth on a track at low cost, especially when you want a realistic mix of listener types in a chosen market.

Spotify 100% Premium plays

Plays from Premium listeners only. From $0.50 per 1,000.

Good for: campaigns where you specifically want Premium listening in the mix. Keep in mind that no service can guarantee royalties, and promoted plays should never be treated as a source of income.

Mixed or Premium: how to decide

• Choose mixed plays when you want the most volume for your budget and a listener mix that resembles a typical audience, which includes both Free and Premium users.
• Choose 100% Premium plays when the Premium share of your listening matters to you, for example when you are comparing campaigns or want a specific listener profile.
• Combine them if you are unsure: a larger mixed order with a smaller Premium order on the same track keeps the overall mix varied.

Choosing a country

Source plays: where the stream comes from

In Spotify for Artists, streams are grouped by where the listening happened. Source plays are plays attributed to a specific listening source:

Source plays are useful when you want the source breakdown of your streams to look varied rather than coming from a single place. Important: a source play is attribution of the listening source. It does not place your song on the actual editorial playlist or in anyone's Discover Weekly, and it cannot guarantee future algorithmic or editorial placement.

Spotify Charts plays

Plays aimed at daily or weekly chart activity in a country you choose, at $1.50 per 1,000. Chart positions depend on the whole market, so no chart position can be guaranteed.

Monthly listeners and followers

Monthly listeners

Ordered with an artist link, from $0.90 per 1,000. Monthly listeners count unique listeners over a rolling 28-day window, so this metric naturally rises and falls. It is the number people see first on your profile.

Followers

From $0.09 per 1,000, minimum 100. Available for artists, users, playlists and podcast shows. Followers are a more lasting number than monthly listeners, and they are also the audience Release Radar serves your new music to on Spotify.

Listeners or followers first?

If your profile shows very few monthly listeners, that is what visitors notice first, so listeners can help first impressions. If you already have reasonable listener numbers but few followers, followers help turn that reach into an audience that hears your next release. Many campaigns use both, paced over the same period, with followers growing more slowly than listeners, as they would organically.

Saves, pre-saves and playlist adds

• Saves (track, album or episode): from $0.09 per 1,000. Saves are one of the clearest signals that a listener liked something.
• Pre-saves: $19 per 1,000, for open.spotify.com/prerelease/ links before the release goes live.
• Playlist adds: $0.90 per 1,000. Your track is added to user playlists.

These engagement services pair naturally with plays. A campaign where streams rise but saves and adds stay flat looks one-dimensional; a balanced mix looks closer to how real listeners behave.

Beyond Spotify

The panel also covers YouTube real views for music videos (including VEVO, Premieres, Unlisted and YouTube Music), Beatport track purchases and downloads, Hypeddit chart placements and Genius views.
